Rev. Fr. Joseph Fung, SJ
8th Parish Priest: 1988-1992
Asst. Parish Priest: 1987-1988
Fr. Joseph Fung, SJ or Fr. Jojo as he is fondly called, became Parish Priest of SFX in 1988. Fr. Jojo’s focus was to continue the building up of the BECs and Parish Community. To this end, he streamlined the Parish structure and set up the Parish Pastoral Council. He was also instrumental in instilling a greater sense of spirituality whereby parishioners began to hear the call of God to reach out to the marginalised. Many social projects organised during his time enabled parishioners to understand the social teachings of the Church allowed greater solidarity with the marginalised.
Working with the people of SFX, he discovered many gifts – one of which was his ability to relate to the youth. Another was his gift of poetry. Despite his hectic schedule, he brought out two books of poems, Inner Whisper and Rainbow of Love – a result of the journey of love he made with the people of SFX. Fr. Jojo attributes all that he was able to achieve in SFX to God’s grace.
