Rev. Fr. Frank Doyle, SJ
5th Parish Priest: 1978-1979
He was called home to be with the Lord on 17th March 2011
In 1969, Fr. Frank Doyle arrived in Malaysia and stayed for nearly 10 years until he had to leave because his visa was expired. He was initially a chaplain and moved on to setup the Pastoral Institute, before becoming Parish Priest of SFX at the end of his stay.
He saw himself as holding the fort for Fr. Peter Kim, SJ, who was to be the next Parish Priest. So from 1978-1979, Fr. Frank was the parish priest. Fr. Frank remembers the Holy Week celebrations, especially the Easter vigil and the ordination of Fr. Peter Kim during which he gave permission for six to eight girls to dance down the aisle. Another lovely memory was Children mass on Sunday evenings. The whole Mass was run by the children who were so small that they had to stand on a box to reach the microphone to do the readings.
Fr. Frank’s message to the parish in 2010 was, “I am very proud to be part of this parish because I think it is a very inspiring parish compared to the other parish I have known over the years.”
