He was called home to be with the Lord in 19th April 1980

In 1961 Fr Edmund Sullivan arrived in Malaya and remained the rest of his life. Known as Fr. Ned, he became a Parish Priest in 1965. His distinguishing mark was his living our Matthew 25:40, a passage he loved to cite.

He was a friend to all especially to those in difficulty. In his usual inimitable Irish wit and humour, his intercession at the weekday community prayer at SFX was for the “sick, especially the mentally sick… like ourselves!” Concerned about others, he was every neglectful about himself. He had the outward appearance for the most part of a broken-down tramp; he could not keep anything, gave everything away, never refused anyone. In one instance, he had to be forbidden by his superiors to stop him giving the shirt off his back to the poor.

Fr. Ned is especially remembered as the Apostle of Sungei Way where the new parish of Sungei Way was growing among the poor whom he spent many years ministering to. He was essentially a man for others, a great mad, and loved by all.
