World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM)

The WCCM is a global spiritual community united in the practice of meditation in the Christian tradition. It shares the fruits of this practice widely and inclusively, serving the unity of all and fostering understanding among different faiths and cultures. Its mission is to communicate and nurture meditation as passed on through the teaching of John Main in the Christian tradition, with the aim of serving the unity of all. The community is directed by Laurence Freeman OSB and emphasizes that this practice is a universal—yet deeply Christian—form of prayer, intended to integrate contemplation with active daily life.

John Main was a Benedictine monk who revived the tradition of contemplative prayer and the use of a prayer word or mantra in the Christian tradition. His teachings were inspired by the Conferences of John Cassian and the wisdom of the Desert Fathers.

According to the WCCM, Christian meditation is a form of “pure prayer” without words, images, or thought, leading from the mind to the heart and integrating these two centers of human being. It is a path of simplicity, silence, and stillness.

The SFX PJ meditation group meets weekly on Tuesdays at 8:15 PM (except on public holidays and when there are conflicts with other parish events). At each meeting, we listen to a short talk on meditation, meditate for 20 to 30 minutes, and then share our experiences. Other WCCM groups also meet in parishes in KL, Selangor, Penang, Perak, Melaka, and Kuching. Our SFX Christian meditation group is led by Peter Tan and Monica Gomez. At the national level, we have a council led by National Coordinator Beth Rozario, a parishioner of SFX.

Meditators also join WCCM Malaysia events such as the annual national retreat (a four-day gathering with meditators from other groups and a spiritual director), Lenten and Advent events, introduction to meditation workshops, and essential teaching weekends.

There is also online meditation via Zoom, held twice a week. Contact us by email at wccmmalonline@gmail.com for details on how to receive online meeting invitations.
